Samvel Petrosyan (1941 – 2012) was born in Yerevan. In 1960, he graduated from the Yerevan School of Fine Art.
1961 – 1966 – studied at the Yerevan Fine Arts and Theater Institute.
Since 1970 – lecturer at the Panos Terlemezyan Academy of Fine Arts in Yerevan.
1991 – 2007 – director of the academy
Since 1971 – was a member of the Union of Artists of Armenia
Petrosyan’s landscapes, portraits, still lifes, monumental compositions with religious and historical themes are characterized by authenticity and symbolic means.
He created paintings on evangelical and secular themes for the churches of Saint Sargis in Detroit (1977, 15 images) and Saint Gregory the Illuminator in Sharjah, UAE (1998, 11 images).
He had solo exhibitions in Yerevan (1965), Beirut (1992), New York (1994) and elsewhere.
